In this world of disposable pop, oh-so-serious rock, willfully obtuse indie, political disappointments and myriad other reasons to go meh in the morning, sometimes the best tonic is something gleefully silly. Something that's not only unafraid for its tongue to venture into its cheek, but actively encourages it. Something with a bit of get-up-and-go.

Something like Buffo's Wake, perhaps.

This delightfully deranged Brighton six-piece make, in their own words, “spooky gypsy horror punk”. Their music operates in a similarly peculiar zone to bands like The Destroyers and Sheelanagig, combining fast-paced folk, carnivalesque humour, lewd tango and gypsy intricacies into a highly energetic, gleefully anarchic explosion. As influenced by the grime and darkness of Nick Cave as they are by Balkan folk and Ukrainian hooligans Gogol Bordello, Buffo's Wake delight in sudden gear shifts, baffling non-sequiturs and a healthy sense of the absurd, and are undoubtedly the perfect accompaniment to an evening of knees-up silliness, preferably having consumed an obscene quantity of cider.

Come and have a go if you think you've got the stamina!
