NEW TO ELECTRIC HARMONY - WIRES

Wires are a four-piece from Bath and Bristol with their sights set straight on your soul. Using heartfelt lyrics and a keen ear for melody, they aim to inspire, to evoke, to move.
And they do it pretty darn well.

I’d venture that not many bands could co-opt Satie’s gorgeous, haunting Gymnopedie No. 1 into a soaring, Feeder-esque ballad. Not without it being an unutterable crime against music, anyway. But Wires manage it, skilfully striking an ever-so-tricky balance between genuine emotion and what, in lesser hands, might have seemed cheesy. And it’s like that with most of their songs – you never doubt their sincerity, but you never need to worry that they’re taking themselves too seriously. Their rhythms are tight yet spacious. Their musicianship is assured but un-showy. They have the same aptitude for inspiring and thoughtful music that bands like Feeder, Coldplay and their ilk have nailed, yet they stamp it with their own personality, never sliding into parody or over-earnest homage.

In other words, they’re for non-gnarled, non-numb people. People who haven’t entirely lost themselves to cynicism and hopelessness. People who still like a bit of emotion in their music.
            Such people still exist.
            I promise.
            Someone told me.
            And I trust them.
            I think.
